A Bit o' Bragging

One of my goals this year was to have more face-to-face meetings with students and teachers. I haven't done so well meeting with students (yet), but I have managed to meet with the faculty more.

Overall, these meetings have been great. Not only do I hear a lot of suggestions and ideas, I've also been able to share some good news, like the fact that students scoring proficient or higher on MCAS has risen over 35% in five years.

Beyond MCAS, we also have several students who plan to apply to MIT this year, along with a 100% participation rate for grade 10 students taking the P/SAT. One engineering student has already built his own Segway scooter this year. Another student from Cabintemaking is crafting his own guitar.

Perhaps the best thing so far this year has been the overall "feel" of the school. (If you work in a school, you know what I mean). There's nothing like working at a place where almost everyone - kids, teachers, staff - actually want to be there.

All this, despite our being in the middle of a three-year, $30 million renovation.  Go Southeastern!
