Remembering Bloom County

One of my favorite comic strips of all time is the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Bloom County, by Berkeley Breathed.

If you're not familiar with it, Bloom County was popular in the late-eighties and early-nineties. The strip followed the adventures of people (Milo, Steve Dallas, Fawn Hall) and animals (Opus the Penguin, Bill The Cat, Rosebud the Basselope) who liked to talk politics, hatch crazy schemes and contemplate life while sitting in meadows.

Breathed also published a few books, including Night of the Mary Kay Commandos and Penguin Dreams and Stranger Things.

You can see some of Breathed's favorite strips here and purchase his work here.

Here's an interview with Berkeley Breathed from 2010 talking about the re-issues of his work.

Here's Bloom County's WikiPedia page.
